Winter Warmers Programme
Winter Warmers is a reward based reading programme which runs for six weeks over the winter months to include the school holidays.
Pre-school to intermediate children receive a booklet containing ten review forms. Once five reviews have been completed the child is rewarded with an incentive. Those who want to continue to complete all ten reviews and are rewarded with a second incentive.
Participants come to the library to get their booklets checked.
This is not a report-in session and is less staff intensive than the Summer Reading Programme.
Did you know Winter Warmers is available for schools? The programme can be delivered to a class or a whole school.
For our 2019 programme, children can read and review their way around Matariki, the Maori name for the Pleiades star cluster.
To interest, encourage and stimulate children to have fun and enjoy reading.
To increase reading skills in the widest sense, including creativity, communication, and to develop self-esteem.
To encourage caregivers to become involved with their children’s reading at home – helping create life-long learners.
To encourage children to become regular library users by fostering positive relationships between families, libraries and librarians.
